It depends, and I should be able to tell you after a lesson or two – as long as you let me get to know you. Students are different. They have different strengths and weaknesses, starting scores and target scores, learning styles, stress levels, motivation levels… you get the picture. As I get to know what kind of student and individual you are, I’ll get the information I need to draw up your SAT/ACT preparation plan.
Here are some of the things that I’d like to know:
How many minutes of SAT/ACT homework can you do every day?
Will you have any school deadlines coming up (test, papers, projects?)
Are you participating in the school play? Will rehearsals take up much time?
Do you have to wake up at 5 am for rowing practice?
Is it easy for you to find a quiet place to study?
Have you taken many multiple-choice tests before?
How often do you read for pleasure?
Math: love it or hate it?
What is your dream university – and do you know what score you need to get there?
The more you tell me about yourself, the more precise your plan will be. And the sooner you tell me about yourself, the better!
